The costume from Gutach in the Schwarzwald (Black Forest) region is by far the most well known national costume of Germany. The straw hat with woolen pompoms is very typical. Unmarried girls wear red pompoms on their hats, married women have black pompoms. These two dolls obviously represent unmarried girls. The larger doll is from Gutach made by Schmider, the smaller doll has a sticker on her stand that reads 'Schenkenzell, Schw'.
