This is a Santon doll from the Provence region in France. Depicting an old shepherdess carrying a sheep and a spindle with wool. She is for the most part made of pottery or clay, her arms are partly made of wire to make them bend. The animal is also made of clay but misses its front paws. Very good condition otherwise. Signed at the base 'S. Jouglas'. Simone Jouglas (1917-2001) is a well known santonnière.
