Beautiful hilltribe doll holding a baby, represents the Padaung - also known as Kyan, a sub-group of the Karen people. The Karen live in Thailand, China, Burma (Myanmar), Laos and Vietnam. The Padaung women can wear upto 20 brass rings around their neck to make it look longer, it is supposed to be a sign of great beauty and wealth. Their own mythology tells another story; the rings should prevent tigers from biting. This doll is made in Thailand and has porcelain head, hands and feet. The rest of her body is firmly stuffed cloth. Moveable limbs, the head is rigid. Her traditional costume is outstanding, made with great care and with lots of jewellery and decorations. Condition is absolutely mint. Her metal stand is included in this sale. Size 34 cm/13,5 inches. No marks or label but this doll is designed by Vanida S. Mongkhon and handmade by Youthana Boonprakong.
