This is a beautiful doll representing Amrapali - also known as Ambapali. Amrapali was a royal courtesan of the republic of Vaishali in ancient India around 500 BC. She is dressed in a very luxurious way, with gold decorations. Her upper body is made of painted paper maché or some kind of composition. The rest is softer material shaped by wire. She is wearing a tight fitting satin blouse that leaves the midriff bare. Her red sari is made of thin material. She is wearing nice jewellery, including a little nose dot and glass diamond at the navel. She is barefoot and fixed onto a wooden stand that is painted black. Marked 'Amrapali, Manufactured by M.S. Art' along with a short story about her. Condition is fantastic. Size 32 cm/12,5 cm.
