This is a very well made pair of Santon dolls from the Provence region in France. A fisher man holding two fish and a net, his wife is carrying a straw basket with 2 fish in it and a metal balance. They are for the most part made of pottery/clay, the arms are partly made of wire to make them bend. Their bodies are rigid. The piece they are fixed onto is also made of clay. Excellent condition. Size 20 cm/8 inches. Signed 'Richard' and 'Aix'. (Santons Richard is based in Aix-en-Provence).
